The local people of Nexpa are what really make Nexpa, Nexpa.
One of the first families living in Nexpa was Sophia and Cleto along with Chelique, Pedro, Nancy, Ana and Martha.
Off the beach and in the back of Nexpa there were two other palapa huts where Raymundo and his wife lived in one and his aunt in the other. I do not recall her name but she lived by herself but later due to old age and health went to live in Caleta De Campos with other family members. Raymundo still lives in Nexpa; he is a rancher.
At about the same time I arrived in Nexpa to live another young guy around my same age named Victor arrived; he was from Petacalco. We both had intentions to build huts and live in Nexpa. Victor and I used to solo session all the time; we had the place to ourselves. We were like two little kids with a toy and the toy was the waves at Nexpa. We used to call the waves montañas de agua. If I remember correctly, Victor stayed about a year and then moved to the states. I'm not sure about his whereabouts. Hopefully Victor will someday read this and contact me. I would love to hear from him; many years have passed...lots of memories.
In about 1983, Don Gilberto started building his first huts that he would rent out to traveling surfers. The same year that Don Gilberto started building at Nexpa, the Mendozas started clearing the point, fencing in their property and building a ramada for one of the first restaurants on the point. They also rented out to campers and also built palapa huts that would be rented out to surfers. The Mendoza children grew up on the point. I don't think to much has taken place on the point without them knowing or being part of it.
